We’re incredibly proud to have been part of the latest DIY SOS: The Big Build in Preston. When the call went out for tradespeople to get involved, it was a no-brainer for us — and with F.G. Welch celebrating 50 years in business, we knew exactly how we wanted to mark the occasion.
50 Hours for 50 Years
To celebrate our 50th anniversary, we decided to donate 50 hours of our labour force to the build — 50 hours for 50 years. It felt like the perfect way to mark the milestone, giving something back through the kind of work we’ve been doing since day one. It was a privilege to be involved in something so much bigger than any one company, and to see what can be achieved when the trades community comes together.
The Build
Along with a team of other fine Lancashire plumbing companies, we worked together to install 3 new bathrooms, a kitchen, a utility room and a full central heating system from a new water main upwards. It was a massive undertaking, but with everyone pulling in the same direction, it all came together.
The whole project involved up to a combined 300 tradesmen, suppliers and local volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the day and night to get Daniel home. The dedication and generosity of everyone involved was something special to be part of.
Getting Daniel Home
At the heart of it all was Daniel and his family. That’s what made the long hours and hard work worthwhile — knowing that at the end of it, a family would have a home that properly meets their needs. Seeing the finished result and the reaction from the family is something our team will never forget.
Proud to Give Back
F.G. Welch has been a family business since 1985, and giving back to the community has always been important to us. Being part of DIY SOS was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we’d do it again in a heartbeat.
A huge thank you to everyone who was involved — the other trades, the volunteers, the suppliers, and the BBC team. It was a real team effort and Lancashire should be proud.
